Devon Devas
United Kingdom
Приєднався 7 вер 2011
No, it's not a typo! We are from Chester (Roman Deva for the none historians amongst you) but now live in Delightful Devon, hence 'Devon Devas'. The cunning plan was to retire from the Navy, work in the Middle East for a few years, save like mad, buy a camper (MoHo Darling!) retire again (properly this time) and do more diving and more exploring in Lottie, our 'new to us' motorhome. The reality was that I retired from the RN (well, they put me out to pasture) and followed that with some time in Saudi Arabia. We then did the diving, working as dive instructors in Cyprus and the UK for a couple of years (so failed to retire properly) before buying 'Lottie' the MoHo. Several thousand miles of UK touring later, we changed the MoHo for the imaginatively named 'Lottie Too' and are now well on our way to reaching the 30,000 mile mark as our travels take us all over Europe. Which is all well and good but we continue to fail when it comes to combining the diving with the touring!
Spain 2023 - Homeward Leg
Apologies for some of the editing on this one, the original video on the computer seemed ok but then it threw a wobbly once it was uploaded, more Acme Productions! Anyway, along the Costas taking in Cocedores and Gran Alacant before parking up in Benidorm for Christmas. North through Denia, Gandia and Valencia with a quick stop off at the thermal springs (they weren't that thermal in the middle of January!) at Montanejos before heading to Zaragoza and then on into France and the chunnel. Away for 77 days in total, did just over 3500 miles and stopped at 32 different locations, 23 of which werre 'off grid'.

Spain 2023 - Valencia down to Gib and back along the Costas

Slow poodle down the Med Coast, taking in a few places along the Costa Brava and Costa Del Sol as and when they took our fancy. As we headed west the the Gib magnet cut in so we ended up going there for a few days before we did a quick 180 and headed back along the Costas towards our Christmas stop.

Heading toward the Med Coast but detouring slightly to tick La Morella off our list before continuing on to Peniscola and then the Caves of San Jose, home to the longest subterranean river in Europe (fortunately a man in a boat rows you around, less chance of getting lost . . . . ) Valencia will be our next stop as we really do need to catch up with some domestics.
Off to Spain for Christmas

Only a short one this time. Leaving home (in the rain) and heading off through the Chunnel (in the rain) and a series of (free) French Aires (in the rain) before crossing the border (in the rain) south of Bordeaux and cutting across towards Zaragoza . . . .

A bit of multi tasking from Lottie's Co-Pilot. Taking off her navigator's hat, she popped on her 'Digital Content Creator' hat and threw herself into the Red Sea, clutching her trusty camera. The resulting video footage was her being let loose on the fishes (oh, and there are a few photos in there as well . . . . )

Popped over to Camel Divers for a bit of winter sunshine and a fishes re-aquaint. Daytime air temperatures were a very pleasant 35 degrees; more importantly, the water temperature was a balmy 28. However, unless you are a big fan of Red Sea Fish then this probably isn't the video for you! Diving Jackson, Temple and Ghozlani. Fish, fish and more fish (but I did restrict myself to less than 10 mi...
European Tour 2023 - Final leg, Belgium and France

Five thousand miles later and we are back in France! Poodled through Belgium and took in some of the WWI memorials and battlefields, all very sad as the more you see the more you appreciate the sheer scale of the sacrifices made and the number of lives lost on both sides. On into France where I managed to find a campsite within walking/cycling distance of two of the construction, assembly and l...

Left Denmark and meandered slowly down through Germany, into the Netherlands and then on to Belgium. HIghlights along the way included taking the ferry across the River Elbe, visiting Bourtange Fortress and tracking down a few more of Thomas Dambo's trolls in Belgium.

Across the Oresund Bridge to Copenhagen which was our first planned stop on this leg of the tour. Unfortunately it was impossible to go anywhere in 'Copers' due to the amount of building work going on so we escaped into the countryside to hunt for some of Thomas Dambo's Trolls. Mission accomplished, it was then time to continue heading west towards Germany.

Trees and lakes, lakes and trees, trees and lakes and then . . . Stockholm, cars, vans, people, building, shops! All a bit of a shock really having seen hardly any people and even fewer cars over the last few weeks. We spent three days in Stockholm (the Abba Museum is a must!) and then headed westward to take in the Gota Canal before trundling over to Malmo (with the odd delightful Park Up thro...

Once again, had a bit more footage than I expected so Sweden will be a tale of two halves. The first half, Leg 4.0, sees us trundling into Sweden from Norway, visiting the Ice Hotel and then heading south, crossing the Arctic Circle, visiting Galstroms Hamn Iron Ore Village and taking in a couple of nice park ups.

Left Bud and travelled the short stretch that is 'The Atlantic Road' before winding our way toward Trondheim for National Day. After that it was a trog into the frozen northern waste in order to tick the 'Crossed The Arctic Circle' box in the task book of life. The weather was against us after that so several hundred more miles under the belt saw us ignoring the Lofoten Islands (for now), swing...

Arrived in Flåm in order to take a trip on the railway and also do a little bit of cycling. Weather was generally against us so we ended up staying an extra day to take advantage of a weather window and jump on the train. Fortified with loads of snuggly tops and hats, we slowly headed north (taking in some fantastic scenery and more ferries and fjords) before cruising along Geiranger Fjord. Pal...

After arriving into Kristiansand via Ferry, we started weaving our way in and around the fjords in order to tick off a few 'must doos'. These included Harald Fairhair's Swords, the Ryfast subsea tunnel system and a leisurely stroll up Pulpit Rock. Oh, and there were a few ferries, and a few more tunnels, and the odd bridge or two . . . .

Nice trip and good music
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it and took the time to comment.
thank you for this video, in a few days i'm doing this same trip for the very first time.. the booking agency gave me a different adress for the tickets, but on google maps it seems to be a small office a few streets away from the port. i'm hoping its the blue building after all :)
Hope it all goes well for you! The reason we did the video in the first place was because of all of the conflicting information. I can't imagine them changing everything with regard to ticket offices, mainly because the large blue building was set up specifically for dealing with ferry passengers and there were quite a few ferry companies operating out of that particular building. Enjoy your travels!
Fantastic use of music to accompany you on your journey. Really well put together abs thought through 🙌
Thank you! We're still very 'Acme Productions' compared to most and there's no guarantee we will get better with time; glad you enjoyed it though . . . .
Could not have picked better songs for this! Sending me back to childhood! :P looks like an incredible time!
Not convinced we'd go back in Lottie though, at least not until they do something with the roads . . . .
Great trip it looks like you had 😊
Definitely! Some parts better than others but we don't think we would have changed anything . . . .
Thank you!
You're welcome!
thanks for this...how was the accommodation on the ferry and the trip itself??
Apologies for the slow reply, for some reason the comments haven't been flagged up. Accommodation on the ferry was ideal because we slept in our motorhome! That's the whole premis of camping on board, you stay in your own camper/motorhome so don't have to pay for a cabin. You still have access to the ship's restaurants, toilets etc but have the advantage of being able to go back to familiar surroundings. Hope this helps.
Jealous I didn't get this for myself now! Looks like it was fun! Few Q's and pointers; 1. 1:45 looks like some dodgy parking?! 2. Who was filming you at 2:42 ? 3. 4:23 Bet mum had a few choice words to say doing a left bank like that! 4. 7:23 That bridge looks familiar!
Missed this reply, it wasn't flagged up! So, definitely dodgy parking on my part but I didn't intend to be there for very long. Clever editing at 2:42, I filmed the one after us and then split our footage and popped it in. No choice words, too busy trying to avoid the pedals, buttons, switches etc just in front of her. Thank Mr Brunel for the very recognisable railway bridge . . . .
Thank you for posting. I found it really helpful as I like to see the journey from the cab....puts my mind at rest. I don't suppose you have completed the Tunis to Italy route? Or Greece to Turkey?
Hi there. Again, apologies for the slow reply, comments weren't flagged up. We're glad you found it useful, we did a lot of research beforehand and were getting a tad concerned because most people seemed to have all sorts of problems both getting to, and at, the port. We found the whole thing very stress free, which was a bonus, especially after the Italian roads! We've not done Tunis to Italy, or Greece to Turkey. There are a couple of UA-camrs (The MotorRoamers, AKA Karen and Miles) who have been full timing for a number of years, they've pushed out some useful blogs, vlogs and ebooks of their adventures so you might find something in their channel.

That was a lot of tunnels! Little slower than the movie!
13:15 - that frame is just perfectly beautiful! And at 13:38 that just looks like paradise, very calming!
